Comparative overview analysis of the ways in which the restructuring phenomenon is dealt with worldwide

Final Synthesis Report, November 2011, Project on behalf of the European Commission, Antonio Dornelas, Howard Gospel, Jakob Haves, Eckhard Voss and Peter Wilke

This synthesis report summarizes results of the project “Comparative overview analysis of the ways in which the restructuring phenomenon is dealt with worldwide” that Wilke, Maack and Partner has implemented for the European Commission since May 2011 in close cooperation with colleagues at the Kings College in London and the Lisbon University Institute together with national experts in eleven different countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

The reflection on and the debate of the restructuring phenomenon in Europe has been to a large extend initiated by the European Commissions’ Communication on “Restructuring and Employment” in 2005, followed by quite a substantive number of thematic research projects, comparative reviews and stakeholder meetings and forums since then. However, this study and the adoption of a global perspective on restructuring enters new ground with regard to several aspects, not at least with view on the question of what is meant by restructuring in different parts of the world.
